- First ARTEMIS call attracts 27 proposals for a total of EUR 323 million

(11 September 2008)27 Proposals were received for the first call for proposals, corresponding to a total amount of EUR 323 million in research planned by many different consortia. The total amount of requested public funding is around EUR 170 million from the involved Member States and from the Joint Undertaking. Around 397 participants out of 22 different European countries are involved in the proposals. All the major European players in Embedded Systems Research are included in this call; around 28% of the participations are from SMEs.

The Commission launched on 8 september the 'Practical Guide to EU funding opportunities for Research and Innovation' to help all stakeholders to find their way into the different existing EU funding. Central to the realisation of the goals of the Lisbon Agenda is the need to promote the knowledge economy, in particular through research, technological development and innovation (RTDI). EU support for RTDI is provided mainly through the 7th Research Framework Programme, the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme and the Structural & Cohesion Funds. If their impact is to be maximised, it is essential that these sources of funding are used in a coherent way.
